Uhh, I dunno! For me, it's like the easiest thing ever — I'm even better at swimming than I am at walking, hah! [ Who the fuck brags about walking, um ]
But uh— humans... aren't the best swimmers...? What do you know about Boss Monsters swimming? Maybe you're a natural born swimmer and never even knew it!
[ Alberto... has never seen a goat... except for Asriel, and Chara's unnamed familiar via video. The hell does he know? ]
( There's a lengthy pause then as Asriel registers those words. Humans aren't the best swimmers.... It's something that sounds rather peculiar for a human child to say -- unless, well-- )
... Alberto, you aren't human?
( Maybe it's a silly question to ask, considering that he definitely looks human, but people come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. )
[ Alberto just grins at that, and does not answer... ]
C'mon—! So you wanna go swimming or what~? I mean, we're both already awake, right? Aaand there's probably no one out there right now — so if you suck at it, no one will know!
[ Well, that's. Still not an answer. But he seems smitten about the idea anyway? Late-night dip in the lake?
This is why kids are supposed to have bedtimes... ]
( Asriel doesn't fail to notice that Alberto sort... dodges his question, which more or less confirms that he isn't, but Asriel's not about to make any sort of assumptions as to what Alberto might be.
There's hesitance to reply, because Asriel's never swam before. Sure, no one else might be there, but he's probably going to look pretty silly to Alberto... )
Yeah. I’ll bring Carlo — you bring Almond. They won’t swim with us, but, y’know— just in case. Ciao~
[ In case of what?!? But he’s not elaborating, just giving that signature lazy smile as he signs off and heads out. Having a new friend — a new monster friend — who’s willing to match Alberto’s spontaneity is beyond exciting. Late night swimming lessons on the fly? Exactly on brand for this reckless young sea monster! ]
( In case of what indeed. The call ends before Asriel can ask, and all he can do is make his way to the beach. Almond follows closely behind, making sounds of complaints. Looks like not everyone wants to go to the beach late at night...
Asriel finds that it doesn't take him too long to get there. With as long as he's been there, he's been getting better at memorizing where most places are. )
[ Alberto doesn't take long, himself. He was already dressed, having just barely started winding down for the night — which, uh, apparently was but a momentary blip. He's up and at 'em in an instant, much to Carlo's chagrin as well. He'll show up carrying the annoyed, sleepy cat in his arms, cradled like a cranky baby. Alberto's in his clothes from home, still not having invested much money interest in acquiring more human clothing, and barefoot as always.
But for whatever time of night it is, he looks bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, ready for his debut~ He's already highly amused planning this big reveal, having sort of, uh, entirely forgotten to mention to Asriel that he's not human. Whoops... But that said, it just makes this midnight rendezvous even funnier to him — and even more exciting. He can only hope the fellow monster will be as happy as he is to have another monster friend, even if they're obviously two completely different kinds of creatures... As he's on his way, it makes him wonder what Asriel would look like if he made the Change like sea monsters do — what would he look like if he looked like a human? Or! Or?! What if Asriel does make the Change, but backwards, and maybe since he's never tried to swim, he'll turn into some fishy sea monster, too, once they get in the water?! That'd be hilarious! Alberto's imagination is his best asset and it entertains him on his way... He has half a mind to draw a picture of these versions of Asriel, even if he knows it's a total flight of fantasy — it's just funny to think about, c'mon~
When he sees the other boy, who's arrived before him, he drops Carlo unceremoniously — thank goodness the cat can fly, so it just flounders as it falls then hovers in midair, glaring at the boy. Alberto waves and calls out, grinning with a warm, half-lidded gaze. ]
Hehe-heyyy~! Asriel!
[ He struts up, quickening his pace a bit, and claps a hand to the boy's shoulder friendlily. Carlo floats along behind him, looking grumpy. Alberto smiles warmly at Asriel, meeting his eye directly for a good beat, but his gaze finds Almond on the ground, and he nods acknowledgment at the armadillo. ]
Almond. Ciao~
[ He says with some emphasis, silly and endeared as he so often is. He lets go of Asriel's shoulder, placing his hands on his own hips and puffing his chest out cockily, standing contraposto comfortably. He gestures over the cliffs toward the shores with his chin, smirking widely with fond eyes. ]
( It's partly curiosity that has Asriel coming to the beach at this time of night. Though, if someone were to ask, he'd admit that he didn't want to pass up the chance to spend time with Alberto. Being with him was always unpredictable, but fun. He was also so carefree that it was difficult to think of the things that were bothering him. Asriel was someone often plagued with guilt and loneliness because of his past -- and so, there was a part of him that selfishly wanted to forget that and indulge in the childhood he never really got to enjoy to the fullest.
He runs forward when he spots Alberto nearing the beach, meeting him halfway. He hasn't been waiting long at all. It looks like the both of them shared enthusiasm to meet with one another. )
Good evening, Alberto! ( He greets happily. )
I'm ready! ( He pauses for a moment. ) ... Uhm, was there something else you wanted to do while we were here, though?
( Alberto was... a little vague. Not to mention, he had definitely dodged some of his questions. )
[ He doesn't wait a second to respond, that smirk turning to a wide, mischievous grin. And without even a hint of hesitation, he readies himself, then takes off running without warning, right toward the edge of the cliff, and shouts with gusto...: ]
Andiamooooo~!
[ ...and leaps straight off and over the edge in a bold dash, light laughter laced through the fresh night air mid-jump. This is your crazy new friend, Asriel. Here to give you a heart attack. Sorry about it.
But there's no screaming, no splat, no damage. In fact, there's an unnerving, loud, gravelly sound like rocks moving, and a slight shake in the ground, as the hand of the Cliff Beast extends and catches the boy as he falls. Alberto's lucky it does, because for as much as he puts the poor Cliff Beast to work for fun ever since his very first day, playing this stupid game by himself, he actually has never done it at night, and really has no idea if the Cliff Beast sleeps or not?! Whether or not it does, at least it's awake now to save his brazen little butt.
Once he's caught, Asriel can find him sprawled out in the palm of the Cliff Beast's massive hand, laughing in sheer delight. ]
Ahaha~! Woohooooo! Yeah-hahah!
[ He thrusts his hands up in the air triumphantly, letting out a huge sigh of relief, then scrambles to his feet, standing with his legs wide apart, feeling his oats now. He waves both his arms back and forth widely, coaxing the other boy down with his brightest grin yet, eyes alight with chaos charm. ]
( Asriel can't help but gasp lightly when Alberto seems to jump with no warning, quickly running to the edge where his friend once was. A bit crazy, sure -- but, Asriel's definitely seen crazier in his lifetime. However, he does find himself relaxing when he sees that Alberto seems to have been caught by magical rocks.
... Well, he did tell him that when they first met, didn't he? There were seemingly magical rocks that would help them if they tried to jump into the ocean.
For a moment, Asriel looks down - shuffling his feet in a bit of a tentative manner. However, it takes him only a second or so before his brows furrow and he backs up a great deal. He's done far more dangerous things by now. What's one more thing on the list? He definitely would have hesitated - perhaps said no in a distance past.
But, a lot has changed since then. )
... Okay! Here I come!
( He runs forward then, leaping at the very last moment - those stones beginning to shift once more as he yells at, laughter escaping him before he lands on the rocks with a quiet sound. )
[ Alberto's delighted seeing Asriel approach the edge and disappear again, knowing what that means — or at least hoping he knows what that means... and as the other boy backs up, steels himself, and disembarks into thin air in a literal leap of faith, Alberto's tickled pink he was right that he's in like company. His eyes follow Asriel as he falls, and the Cliff Beast's other hand catches the prince. Alberto laughs from his hand nearby, and rushes over to the base of the hand he's in, grinning widely still. ]
Okay, okay! Let's get to the water!
[ He takes a deep breath, pretty much revs up, then shoots off as fast and far as he can off the Cliff Beast's fingertips, uncertain how far the hands will extend to catch him. But as he runs off, he turns backwards and flips, splaying all his arms and legs out dramatically as he trust-falls into thin air. ]
Take! Me! Magic Gravityyy-hehe-ee!
[ Y'know, they could've just as easily taken the stairs... ]
( What's life if you don't take some risks? If anything, it was Chara was initially influenced Asriel to be the kid he is now, and Alberto? In the past, it would have very likely been the same thing. He was always one who rather impressionable to those around him. Chara was the one who helped him take more risks and ultimately break some rules from time-to-time. Perhaps it was thanks to them that Asriel was out here at all.
It's a lot less nerve-wracking this time. He knows what to expect when he jumps down again. )
Here I come!
( He calls out, laughter escaping him once more when he jumps, the creature catching him with ease. Though, he'll inevitably start becoming slower as they near the water. )
[ Alberto lands on the next hand with a loud, ungraceful thud and an "oof," but it's quickly followed by delighted laughter of his own, undeterred. He lets out another whoop and leaps again and again, eventually trying to match up with Asriel as they jump a few more hands down together. But as they get nearer to the bottom, he notices Asriel starts slowing down...
Alberto stops short in the palm of one hand toward the end, and thrusts an arm out against Asriel's chest as he hops up to stop him from jumping again. He wears an oddly serious-like expression, surveying the shore before them before they reach it. He glances to the side and catches the boy's gaze from the corners of his eyes, but then a knowing, cockeyed smirk crawls over his face. He extends his arms gracefully, albeit theatrically, and splays his palms out flat, concentrating his magical effort. His familiar had been floating behind trying to keep up (poor Almond, did he take the stairs?!) but catches onto what Alberto's about to do, and flies quite a bit faster to come help out...
With their combined effort, they can make some fairly stable hard light magic. A translucent, iridescent, glowing forcefield begins to materialize off the edge of their present Cliff Beast hand, forming what looks very much like a (sparkly rainbow-ish) slide right down to the shore, dissipating toward where the tides lap at the sand. Carlo taught Alberto this trick before any others, essentially: How to save his ass from jumping off cliffs and doing stupid shit. But Alberto eventually just— put his own "stupid-shit" spin on this protective spell and turned it into an accessory for bullshit instead of something, y'know, preventative and useful, like the cat had intended it to be... But it's still probably better than just plain jumping off cliffs? At least better he's practicing his magic at it; it's a more useful skill to practice than his silly fireworks glamours, after all. But hey, he's a kid of many talents.
He tips his head toward it, grinning at Asriel more slyly now. ]
( Once Alberto asks Asriel to wait, he can't help but blink in curiosity - simply watching for a moment. The magic shown is far more practiced than before, albeit it's still evident that Alberto is new at using it. Still, Asriel smiles fondly as Alberto seems to slide downwards. It's safer, to say the least -- but, it doesn't look any less fun.
Asriel backs up once again, but there's no hesitance this time when Asriel begins to slide downwards - laughing all the while until he finds himself at the bottom. At this point, he knows that Alberto's use of magic is a bit risky -- but, that's never stopped Asriel from having fun before. And, even if something does happen and his magic disappears? Asriel knows that the rock creature is bound to catch them.
Asriel is practically bouncing on his heels when he pushes himself up to stand. )
Alberto, that was amazing! I didn't know you could do that with your magic.
[ Alberto stands behind watching Asriel slide down, a genuine grin spreading ear-to-ear as he does. He likes seeing the other monster have fun. He claps his hands approvingly once the other boy bounces back to his feet, applauding from above. ]
Bravo, Asriel!
[ He places his hands proudly on both hips then, leaning forward teasingly with a smile so wide it almost hurts, and a mischievous glint in his green eyes that almost literally sparkles in the moonlight, even from afar. ]
Okay, now, watch out, ehehe— Wanna see something else amazing that you didn't know I could do~?
[ Why does... this sound more ominous somehow...? The buildup... Maybe it's the fact that he's backing up to the other end of the hand to get as much of a running start down his magic slide as he possibly can, priming himself to meet Asriel on the shore, as the tide licks at the boss monster's feet in the sand. Alberto calls out to Asriel, unseen now from where the prince stands below for the extra space he's giving himself to gain speed, Alberto's voice carrying itself loud and proud over the empty beach. ]
I want you to hit me with your water magic as soon as I slide down, okay?! On three, got it?!
