Monsters are... creatures made out of magic. We're really differently from humans because of that.
We're a lot weaker than humans though. When there was a war between humans and monsters... monsters didn't really stand a chance against humans. B-But, if a human dies, a monster can take a human's SOUL and become really powerful. People were really scared of that, and... that's why a war broke out in the first place.
All monsters really want is to live in peace... We never wanted to hurt anyone like that.
O-Oh... gosh, I guess it's a lot different than the super heroes in stories, huh? But, if your job is to help others, then... others would depend on you to answer calls for help. Wow, the most popular hero, though...! They must be really amazing and kind. I...I always thought that heroes were just strong -- but, I know that sometimes, they don't have to fight anyone in order to save people.
( Asriel blinks a bit at the pat before he offers a warm smile in response - eyes lighting up at the affectionate gesture. )
... Do you really think that anyone can change? Even... if they've done some really bad things before...?
( What she said hit home for him in more ways than one, and it's enough to make his expression fall a bit. He had been talking about his character, but now... it's more than that. Ochako's words make him think back to things that he's resolved to do for himself.

I... I think your right. If someone can turn a new leaf, it's important to be strong and try to do as much good as they can -- to... try to make up for everything that they did to hurt others.
Then... they were just protecting their home, right...? ... I don't like the idea of hurting others, but... sometimes you can't just resolve things peacefully. I... I can understand why they would do that.

He's holding his phone between his knees, carefully, comfortably chilling out in his bed well past nightfall, the lights out in his room but the scene still moonlit from his open window, enough to see clearly. His hands appear from each side of the camera frame, fingers twisting and manipulating as if twirling an invisible ball, until suddenly, from thin air, a blossom of fireworks appears and dissipates into many shattered sparkles, blues and purples and bright whites. It's just light magic, so there's no sound, but he's definitely got the shape down since their first meeting. He's clearly just staying up in bed playing around like this, and, well, he's gotta show off to someone...! ]
There must be. The forests can't all be cut down yet.
[Even if she still doesn't really know her way around outside Kilkenny, she knows that there are still wooded areas left. There have to be, if there's still any chance of Mebh and the wolves living in safety.]
I really want to think so, yeah, but...I think it also depends heavily on the person themselves, too. If they want to change, and for the right reasons. Because, you know...just changing and becoming better doesn't make people forgive you. It doesn't change what's already been done.
[Villains, people who hurt their families for selfish reasons, or even just someone who bullies someone else for a long, long time... There are all types out there, and everyone makes mistakes. Some people try to change, try to overcome their past selves, and some do not. Some want forgiveness, and seek it out when it's not their right, others abandon the idea and seek atonement instead. People are all complex, and no one person is the same.

But I think just making the attempt to do better, for yourself and for others around you, is a great thing. Maybe it's naive of me, but I can't look at someone trying to change as a bad thing. Even if they're never forgiven, it's always better to try to do good than bad. Trust can't be given back so easily once you've broken it, and sometimes there's no way to ever get it back, but you still have to mend what you broke.
[It's a hard life lesson, and Ochako looks at Asriel a moment, assessing him closely. What a heavy thing to talk about...and she takes a breath and claps her hands together. Enough sad talk! This is supposed to be a fun event where people are cheering and smiling!!]

He has no clue if Asriel and he are from the same planet, or the same version of the same planet, but even if they’re not at all— it’s still quite pretty regardless, after all. He has been working hard at just this one trick with his magic, though… But is this really a pre-bedtime activity, Alberto? Does this kid ever turn off? ]
